Products and services from the transport and logistics sector in Qatar and the region are being showcased at the lsquo;Qatar International Exhibition for Transport and Logistics (Trans4 Expo),rsquo; which got underway at the Doha Exhibition Centre yesterday.
The expo, being held under the patronage ofnbsp; the Prime Minister HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani and which was inaugurated by the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning HE Sheikh Abdurrahman bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al-Thani, also brings together innovative technologies in the transport and logistics industry under one roof.
Trans4 Expo with the theme, lsquo;Talking Futurersquo;nbsp; is also serving as a platformnbsp; where industry leaders can network with local policy and decision makers to get a comprehensive overview about the importance of the sector, apart from providing a closer look at the entire value chain in transport and logistics such as railway, shipping and freight.
Featuring in the event are more than 40 exhibitors from different countries, who are showcasing latest products and technologies to trade visitors as well as Qatari decision makers in the sector.
ldquo;Trans4 has a strategic importance as it is organised in the host country of the World Cup 2022 with a mega budget allocated to world-class infrastructure, comprising a $20bn worth of road projects, Doha Metro, $11bn New Doha International Airport (NDIA), Doha new port, Lusail city and Msherib city. All that will create a vital need for a parallel growth in transportation systems, networks, logistics, shipping, freight forward services and air cargo,rdquo; expo organiser and Al Baida Group chairman Eng Ali al-Misnad said in a welcome message.
He explained that the expo was a uniquely targeted event for supply chain, logistics and transport saying: ldquo;The increasing integration of the economies and increasing global market competition, advanced methods in operations, research and management for the logistics and transport sector are needed for optimal planning and operation of complex large-scale multi-modal transportation systems.rdquo;
Al-Misnad noted that the demand for greater efficiency and performance of logistics and transportation systems and concerns for the environment as well as the quality of living imposed constraints on operations and development.
ldquo;The search for better technology and methods that improves the effectiveness of transportation and logistics systems while maintaining environmental sustainability is a major concern for both researchers and practitioners,rdquo; he said.
Transport-related projects occupy a pre-eminent position in Qatarrsquo;s infrastructure plans and the government has already shown its commitment to invest in transportation projects.
The country has committed to build more than $40bn worth of transportation infrastructure including rail projects worth $25bn with plans for a high speed rail link between NDIA, Doha city centre and a light rail system connecting to new cities.
Trans4 Expo concludes tomorrow.
